Tea dances return to Town Hall

A slice of nostalgia is set to return to Midsomer Norton by popular request, in the form of a period Afternoon Tea Dance, between 3pm and 5pm on Sunday 9th February in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall.

The Midsomer Norton Community Trust have put their usual gusto into the event to create an authentic feel, making 1920’s waitress outfits and gathering cake stands, tea cups, kentia palms and damask tablecloths. Others will be baking traditional fare, including seed cake, Victoria sponges and cucumber sandwiches – with the crusts cut off, of course!  As well as piano music played by Jacquelyn Bevan on the Bechstein grand, there will be original tracks from the great bands of the 1920s and 1930s – some played off original 78s on a horned gramophone.

“So don’t wait for the return of Downton Abbey – come on down and let us take you back to an age of decadent elegance and the quintessentially English afternoon tea dance. Come and just have tea and enjoy the ambience or you can join in the dancing. Either way this will be an afternoon to remember”, said Alex Davis, Community Development Manager.
